Chrysalis women’s shelter may soon get the financial break for which it’s been waiting.
At Tuesday’s council meeting, the Town of Huntsville recommended that the shelter be considered Muskoka’s ‘highest priority’ when it comes to distributing grant money earmarked for the District of Muskoka.
The Chrysalis team is particularly hoping to tap into funds from the Canada-Ontario Affordable Housing Program, which guarantees the District $1,050,000 to build 15 housing units.
“This is absolutely tremendous,” said Chrysalis spokesperson Dale Peacock. “We’re so happy to have this kind of support.” MPP Norm Miller said he’s especially pleased about the announcement since “there has been a gap in providing services to women and their families in North Muskoka.”
Peacock added that, for 20 years, many women and children have had to go all the way to Interval House in Bracebridge during times of distress, but “that is no longer acceptable.” |
