While the date to break ground on Huntsville’s new women’s shelter is currently dependent on some additional funding commitments, when Chrysalis is a go the trade community will be there to help wholeheartedly.
A meeting held November 21 in Partners’ Hall of the Algonquin Theatre drew roughly 15 interested contractors and trades workers. With the Chrysalis building plans on display, those in attendance discussed issues of building security, site assessment, interior design, handicap access and the bidding process.
“There has been a lot of support shown for Chrysalis both tonight and in general from contractors and trades services across Huntsville. We’ve had donations in kind on all types of levels. The community support has been amazing,” said Claude Doughty, meeting director and co-chair for Chrysalis.
Doughty hopes that Chrysalis, to be built at the southwest corner of Muskoka Commerce Park, will break ground in early January, utilizing insulated concrete form technology to move quickly in the winter months.
“Once the site is ready to go we can have the structure up in five to six months,” said Doughty.
Those who were unable to attend the meeting but are interested in donating time, services or bidding on work can contact Doughty at claudex@vianet.ca Copies of Chrysalis site plans are also available from Doughty for those interested. |
